Manipal: On February 28, every year the National Science Day is celebrated. On this day in 1922 Sir C V Raman had discovered the Raman Effect which was the scattering of light. As a reminder every year on the same day National Science Day (NSD) is celebrated in his honour.
This year Manipal University Dr Anil Kakodkar, Hohmi Bhaba Professor, Bhaba Atomic Centre, was invited as the Chief Guest for the celebrations. He said that taking up science was important because the number of students who study science is equal to a nation’s progress. Also science is a power which generates resource and wealth which can be used to empower a nation and its people.
Students from various schools of all grades were present at the event which was conducted in Chaitya Hall. These students were given awards in science drawing, model and exhibition category which was conducted in their respective schools on the NSD occasion.
Among other dignitaries, Dr K Ramanarayanan, Vice Chancellor, Manipal University; Dr G K Prabhu, Registrar Manipal University; Dr Satyamurthy, Director MLSC and Dr Somasekhar Bhatt, professor MIT were also present.
